A loan of $725 helped to buy a freezer.

Gladys's story

Gladys is 20 years old and lives in Imperial, a city with a varied climate whose development is based on agriculture, particularly the cultivation of asparagus and cotton, among other things. Gladys is mother to two five-year-old children who she loves very much, and she works very hard to be able to give them a better future and above all a decent life. Due to her limited economic resources, she was only able to stay in education until the fourth grade of secondary school, but she would have liked to have studied nursing.

Gladys works every day in a small shop selling fruits, in particular melons. With the money she earns she is able to pay the household expenses. She works around nine hours a day and serves about 15 customers a day. She believes that she does well in her job because she is friendly to customers.

Gladys is very grateful to the Kiva lenders; thanks to their help she will be able to buy a freezer as she currently doesn't have one and sometimes her fruit goes bad because she can't keep it in the right conditions. By having somewhere to properly store her fruit she will be able to increase her profits and thereby continue everyday to fight to make her biggest dream come true: to give her children a profession and be the owner of a big business.
