A loan of $5,450 helped to purchase sinks, chairs, dyers, and a receptionist desk and chair.

Talshica's story

For eight years, Talshica has offered her services as a professional hair care attendant. As she continues to juggle her business and her side job, Talshica’s main focus is providing professional help for those without healthy hair.

At her business, New Growth Hair Care, Talshica takes hair at all levels -- thin, split, broken and even healthy – and treats it to an improved level of care from her storefront, and oftentimes, in client’s homes.

Gaining clients from fliers, social groups, friends, family, and from advice given to potential clients, Talshica says more than half of her clients are returning clients.

To expand her business, Talshica ventured to Accion Texas Inc. after learning about the nonprofit microlender from the Small Business Development Center in her hometown of Baton Rouge. A $5,450 loan helped the 32-year-old purchase sinks, chairs, dyers, and a receptionist desk and chair.

Though Talshica has many years of experience, she is at the beginning of her next stage of her business. She says after the additions to the store are made, she plans to add hire one full-time and three part-time employees. She also plans to become a wholesaler for the products she uses to increase business.
