A loan of $50 helped to pay for 10 low-cost LED lights to resell to rural households without electricity.

Celestin's story

Celestin is a 29-year-old man from the Bugesera district in the eastern province of Rwanda.

He is seeking a loan of RWF 30,000 to purchase 10 rechargeable LED lights, which he will sell to people without electricity in his village. Every week or so, these customers will return to him to have their lights recharged for just RWF 100.

Celestin started selling lights in July, 2012, and he has sold 30 lights to date, providing clean energy to 150 people.

He is also a farmer and will reinvest the money he makes into expanding his other business to earn more money for himself, his wife Jeannette, and their two children.
