Carmen's story

The communal bank "Con amor y fe hacia el desarrollo" (with love and faith towards development) meets every 15 days in Los Bajos de Montecristi, a city known for its cultural richness and for its artisanal crafts, for example, straw hats that are well known within the country and abroad as well.

It is here that Mrs. Carmen lives. She is 41 years old, a single mother of 2 children who are 16 and 14 and go to high school. She lives in her mother's house.

Mrs. Carmen is involved in many different economic activities, as well as being head of household, and she is also a nurse's aid and she works in a medical center in the city. She also sells cosmetics and is an artisan, making straw hats in her free time and, once they are made, she sells them to vendors who come all the way to her house in order to re-sell them in different locations. She has been doing this for more than 14 years, it is a craft that she learned from her mother.

This credit is to purchase cosmetics and straw in order to make hats. She has been a member of this communal bank for 8 years.

Her dream is that her children become professionals.
