A loan of $6,200 helped a member to buy chickens.

Los Girasoles Group's story

This group of 8 hardworking, kind entrepreneurs is called “Los Girasoles” (Sunflowers). It’s located on the shores of the Cerro de Oro dam and the main economic activities are bream sales and commerce.

María de Jesús is one of the group members. She’s 51-year-old and only attended elementary school; she’s single.

She relates that she’s always been a working woman. Since she was little her parents taught her that work is the only way to get ahead.

María de Jesús works selling live and butchered chickens; she’s been doing this for more than 30 years. When she started this activity her intention was to move her children forward and thanks to her work and effort she did so. She started out making small sales at home and as years have gone by her business has become more popular and she’s expanded it. Currently, in addition to selling at home she also delivers chicken to some establishments.

She has requested this loan to buy chickens to continue with her sales. In future, she’d like her business to continue to grow and to have more places to deliver chickens to in order to improve her quality of life.

The Girasoles group is grateful for the opportunity of receiving their loan. The other group members are:

Andrea - snacks sales
Julia - bread sales
Aurora - food sales
Maria Esther - fast food sales
Josefina - tacos sales
María Elena - chicken sales
Ariana - tacos sales
