Purnima Self Help Group's story

Purnima Self Help Group was formed with ten members in 2007 in a small village in Odisha. They all came together to help each other and solve the social issues among them, save money and provide financial support to their families. They chose Purnima as the leader of their group. The lady siting second from the right side of the photograph is Purnima. She is a 35-year-old woman living with her husband and her son, age 11. Since seven years ago, Purnima’s husband has been working as a farmer to manage his small family. It is not sufficient to manage the family. So Purnima is helping her husband by working with him and being involved in the milk business. She has three years experience in this business. She has requested a loan to buy a cow and fodder so that she can support her family’s income. Purnima says that by selling milk, she can support her family and she can send her son to a good school. Through that, she can provide a better education to her son.
