Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $400 helped to purchase bags of charcoal.

Rose's story

Rose is married with two children, one of whom attends school. She also takes care of her grandmother.

Rose has had a business, selling charcoal, for eight years. She has applied for loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings (UGX) from MCDT SACCO to purchase more bags of charcoal. She generates additional income from a grocery shop.

Rose sells her products, on a retail basis, seven days a week. The major challenges facing her business include seasonality and theft. Rose aspires to be a wholesaler and to build her own house. She resides in a rented house, where the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses include school fees and rent.
