Susa Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Susa” Group. These are small-scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of 500,000 leones each in order to invest in their respective businesses.

Kumba is the featured leader of this group. Kumba is 30 years old. She is married with three children: one in primary school, one in secondary school and the other is not of school-going age. Kumba sells market food: palm-oil (the country’s most popular cooking oil), onions, Margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, etc. With the help of this loan, Kumba will invest in her business by buying palm oil, onions, Margi, salt, pepper, etc. in bulk to add to her current stock.
