A loan of $550 helped to buy corn and bananas at wholesale.

Paquita's story

Paquita, 58, is a hardworking woman who very much wants to improve. She’s divorced and has nine children but only one of them still lives with her in her own house. Paquita’s work consists in buying and selling bananas and various grains like corn, beans, soya and others according to the season.

She rises very early every day to head to the city’s main port to get the products that she then puts up for sale in the same place or sometimes she sells them at retail at home. She considers her work to be very profitable because her profits are very good. She’s been in this business for about 7 years and has always worked with her children’s support or sometimes with support from some helpers that carry the banana bunches or heavy sacks of grain.

This is her 9th Kiva loan so she’s grateful for the opportunity and trust given her to continue in business which is why she commits to make her payments punctually. She will use the requested 1,500 soles to buy sacks of rice and banana bunches at wholesale to continue with her work.
