A loan of $550 helped to buy pots, utensils, water filters, and other items.

Marcelina's story

Marcelina is a married 35-year-old woman with three children. She and her family live in their own house. She makes her living mainly by selling kitchen utensils and accessories, such as pots, water filters, spoons, plates, vent fans for stoves, sinks and more. She sells her goods on the streets of her city to her regular customers, and sometimes she sells her goods to friends and neighbors. She purchases all of her products at wholesale from a central distributor in the city.

She works alone and says that her greatest difficulty is that she has to move all her merchandise from one place to another, which takes all afternoon. What she likes about her job is that every day she gets to know more and more people who may become customers.

Further down the road she would like to be able to open her own permanent shop for household goods. This is her seventh loan through Kiva, and she is very grateful for all the financial support she receives so that she can get ahead.

She will use the loan proceeds to buy kitchen items at wholesale, such as pots, utensils, water filters, vent fans, sinks and other items so that she can continue in her business.
