Amelia's story

Amelia is 41 years old. She lives and works in Buchanan, the capital city of Grand Bassa County, located by the sea. It is well known for its beaches and delicious fish. Many logging companies are also based in the city. Residents of the city love eating fufu (cassava-based dough typically eaten with soup or sauce). Most people in the city are Bassa speakers, one of the indigenous languages of Liberia.

Amelia is married. She completed Grade 7 and has five children between 8 and 18 years old. All of them are living at home and attending school. For the past seven years, she has been operating a cook shop selling rice and soup in the local market. She started this business with a little money from her husband. She learned the business from her friends. She likes her business because of the ways people respond to it. She is requesting a loan to purchase more food ingredients, such as pepper, meat, fish, coal, Vita, etc., for her business. She hopes to have more money to sustain her family.
