Benkadi A Group's story

The members of the group called BENKADI A are married women with an average age of 40 and four children on average, all living in polygamous families in FANIDIAMA, one of the villages of KADIOLO in the region of SIKASSO, third administrative region of Mali. They collaborate with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso so as to succeed with their agricultural activites during the rainy season. They are on their eleventh loan with the institution, and the past loans have been correctly reimbursed. Djenebou Yacou, standing in the middle, grows peanuts. With her loan she intends to buy seeds and farm inputs for two hectares. The produce is sold in the village and at the market of Sikasso, after the harvest, to a clientele composed of men and women. She expects to make a profit of 175,000 francs CFA during the growing season. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with daily expenses.
