Giringeswari Self Help Group's story

The group Giringeswari Self Help Group (SHG) has nine members who are all from the same neighborhood. The lady standing fourth from the left, wearing a yellow sari in the photo is Tuni who is the leader of the group. Tuni is a 27-year-old woman married to a worker in Balipatna village in Odisha, India. The couple has two children who are in school. Tuni lives with her children and together with her husband takes care of all the household expenses. In order to help with all the family expenses, Tuni has been involved in doing paddy and vegetable cultivation and selling the harvest to distributors for the past three years. She supplies her paddy and rice to the rice dealers in the nearby market. In order to strengthen the business and respond to client demand, Tuni and the group Giringeswari Self Help Group are requesting a loan from Peoples Forum to purchase fertilizers, pesticides and seeds and to cover their operational costs. Their goal is to increase their business activity.
