A loan of $1,625 helped a member to buy local produce to sell.

Mohamed S.'s Group's story

Pictured above are teachers from a primary school in Kabala, a town in northern Sierra Leone. They’ve come to SMT, Kiva’s local field partner, to apply for a loan of 7,000,000 SLL in order to meet their most immediate and most pressing financial needs. And at the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Musa is the featured leader of this group of teachers. Musa is a native of Madina village. He is married to a farmer and the couple has 4 children – 3 in primary school and 1 in secondary school. Musa has been a school teacher for 12 years now. He has requested this loan in order to invest in business. This will help him earn more income to add to his current monthly salary. He will use it to buy local produce to sell.
