Benkadi 3 Group's story

The members of the Benkadi 3 Group are married women with an average age of 43 years and an average of seven children. They are all living in polygamous families in Fanidiama, one of the villages of Kadiolo, in Sikasso, the third administrative region of Mali. They work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their eleventh loan with the institution, and their prior loans have been repaid in full.

Massiata, shown standing in the middle in the photo, grows crops of peanuts. With her ​​loan, she intends to buy agricultural inputs and seeds to maintain one and a half hectares of farmland. After the harvest, her produce is sold at the village market to a clientele composed of men and women.

She hopes to earn an income of 175,000 CFA francs per agricultural cycle. This income will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with their daily expenses.
