A loan of $1,800 helped a member to purchase farm inputs and seeds.

Benkadi 2 Group's story

The members of the Benkadi 2 Group are married women who are on average 45 years old, have five children, and all live in polygamous families in Fanidiama, one of the villages in the Kadiolo Cercle of the Sikasso region (the third administrative region in Mali). They work with microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to successfully complete their agricultural activities during the rainy season.

The group is on their 11th loan with Soro Yiriwaso, the previous loans having been properly repaid.

The crop is groundnuts and belongs to Alima, standing in the middle [of the photo]. With her loan, Alima plans to purchase enough farm inputs and seeds for 1.5 hectares. After the harvest, the crop will be sold in the village market to a customer base made up of men and women.

Alima expects to see a profit from the loan of 120,000 CFA francs. This profit will allow her to pay her loan and also to help her husband with the daily expenses.

In this group: Mariam Bakary, Abi Noumoutie, Chitan Salim, Kadia Seydou, Fatoumata, Diata, Bintou Chiaka, Alima, Djeneba Solo, Sali Komon
