Even though Esi grew up in poverty without an education, this has not stopped her from fulfilling her dream of achieving a better life for her and her family. Currently, Esi is an entrepreneur. She sells “Kooko” (fermented maize porridge) in Egyirfa (near Cape Coast). Her business enterprise has grown substantially since she began six years ago. She uses the income from her business to help her husband raise their four children. Esi has identified growing demand for her product among consumers. She is unable to meet their needs due to limited inventory capacity. She aims to use her loan to buy more ingredients to make Kooko to sell. With the new profits from her expanded business, Esi wants to buck the trend by ensuring that all her children will be given the opportunity to further distance their family from poverty.
