Lunsar, Sierra Leone / Primary/secondary school costs

A loan of $1,800 helped a member to pay school and college fees for her children, and to renovate her house.

Agnes D.'s Group's story

Agnes is the featured leader of this group of teachers from the northern city of Makeni. The 39-year-old is married to a school principal, and the couple has three children. Two of them are attending secondary school, and one is in college. Agnes has been a school teacher for many years. She has requested this loan in order to pay school and college fees for her children, and to renovate her house with the rest. School staff and other salaried workers do normally come to SMT, Kiva’s first field partner in Sierra Leone, to apply for loans. As salaries are usually very small, these loans help borrowers to buy or invest in things that their salaries would not otherwise let them buy or invest in.
