Sophal's story

Mrs. Sophal S., 50, and her husband, Mr. Nha In, 50, who live on an island in the Mekong River about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh, were married in 1975 and have four children, three sons and one daughter. One of her children has full-time employment and the other three are enrolled in a local school.

Mrs. Sophal has been farming for over ten years. She grows melons, papayas, and corn in her farm not so far from her house. Her husband is a fisherman and does construction work when he has free time.

Sophal is requesting a loan of US$ 500 to purchase a boat for her husband's fishing, build a shelter for cows, and pay fees for renting more plots of land for farming.
