Abdul L.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you this group of school teachers from the township of Lunsar, in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT to apply for a loan of 8,900,000 Sierra Leonean Leones (SLL) in order to solve their most immediate financial needs. They can easily repay the loan, using their monthly salaries at the end of each month. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf.

Abdul is the featured leader of this group. Abdul is the 45-year-old husband of a businesswoman. The couple has four children, who are attending primary, secondary, and tertiary academic institutions. Abdul has been a school teacher for many years. However, he is currently pursuing further studies at the Port Loko Teacher’s Training College. Abdul has requested this loan in order to pay his college fees and other college charges.
