A loan of $900 helped to purchase thread to make more traditional costumes.

María's story

Maria is a 21 year old single woman. She lives in Caserío Monte Mercedes, canton of Sacsiguan, town of Sololá, department of Sololá. She is engaged in making and selling clothing, specifically traditional costumes worn by the people in her community. She makes the clothing in her home. She sells this product to her neighbors and also sells it at the Sololá market. She is engaged in this activity because there is a high demand and the business generates the income she needs to support her family.

She has been engaged in this work for five years. In addition to this activity, she is engaged in selling vegetables in Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa, department of Escuintla (in the southern coast of Guatamala). She is requesting a loan of $900.00 to purchase thread to make more traditional costumes. Her dream is to expand her fruit sales by acquiring another point-of-sale and, in this way, increase her sales and profits.
