Tha, 42, lives in a rural area of the Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham province and he is married with four children, one of whom is dependent on him and still in school. The family’s main sources of income are from farming rice and planting cassava. He also supplements the income by working for others for a fee. He has been in this business for 19 years. He is able to earn about 60,000 KHR per day to meet the family’s need. Low crop yield is still a main challenge for the family’s business.
Tha has only just joined VisionFund, this cycle. Now he is applying for a loan of 1,500,000 KHR. With this loan, he is going to buy seeds, fertilizers and pesticides for his farmland. He hopes to make more income so as to have a better quality of life.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
