Luzminda is a 28-year-old married woman who has 12 children. She lives in Poblacion, Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental. To make a living, she owns and manages a farm, growing vegetables for sale. She's been in this business for 12 years and earns 5,000 PHP a month. In 2006, she joined GDMPC and gained access to microfinance services. She recently applied for a loan of 6,000 PHP to buy additional seedlings and fertilizer, such as manure. She plans to expand her garden in order to generate more income for the family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
