A loan of $550 helped to buy chickens, pigs, seeds and compost.

María Isabel's story

María is a very active member of the Nuevo Bankito la Ramada community bank. She likes the community bank because the loans allow her to improve her crops and buy more animals. María lives in Nabon parish, in Cuenca. This is a cold climate area which is surrounded by lush vegetation thanks to its hilly geography. The area's architecture is a mixture of old and modern and the locals keep their traditions alive.

María is 31 years old, married, and has three children who are 6, 4 and 2 years old. Her eldest son attends an elementary school in the town. Her husband works as a day laborer. They own the house in which they live.

María spends most of her time at home caring for her children who are still young. In order to contribute financially towards the household she works as a farmer, growing vegetables that she sells in her community or in the city. She also raises pigs, chickens and guinea pigs.

María will invest her loan money in buying pigs, chickens, seeds and compost. Her goal is to grow her business.
