A loan of $750 helped to buy cacao trees.

Esperanza's story

Esperanza is 50 years old, married, and currently lives alone with her husband in their home built from adobe, as their children are adults and independent. She has farmed from a very young age, raising cacao, coffee and other cash crops of the area.

She has 2.5 hectares of farmland which is her main financial support. Esperanza is always looking after her plantings, because there is the money that he is constantly investing. When the harvest time arrives she collects the cacao pods with the help of local workers, to later be sold at the various markets in her area.

This is her first Kiva loan, and she feels very grateful for the financial support that she is receiving that is enabling her to move forward. On this occasion, she wishes to borrow 2,000 nuevos soles to buy cacao trees and replace the older trees, as these will no longer produce any kind of fruit.
