A loan of $525 helped to buy hair products and creams.

Maria's story

52-year-old Maria makes a living by both offering services in improving personal image and selling beauty products through specialised guides or catalogues. Maria’s business is in the southern part of the city, where she also lives with her spouse and her two children of 12 and 23 years of age. She has nine years of experience in this business, which started when her friend prompted her to become self-employed and generate income by offering personal services, such as manicures, pedicures, and hair treatments, as well as by selling beauty products. Now Maria does this work every day from nine in the morning until seven at night. She buys products from the city’s main laboratories using cash. As Maria’s clientele has grown, she needs new merchandise in order to respond to requests and give prompt and accessible service. This is the reason she is applying for a loan, which is her first financing through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo and with which she will buy hair products and wholesale creams. This will allow her to increase her working capital and generate even more income, making her Kiva loan a successful and very profitable investment. Her goal is to achieve growth and expansion so she can get her own house.
