A loan of $1,075 helped to buy foods.

Ligia Lilibeth's story

The communal bank Las Palmas KM 14 gets together every two weeks in the Montecristi Canton, which is known for its rich, pre-colonial culture and for its crafts, which are recognized both nationally and internationally. It is the place of the famous toquilla straw hats. In this place lives Ligia, who is 22 years old, married, and has two children aged nine and four who attend school. Her husband is a bricklayer. In order to help out with the household expenses she runs a business, a small store in her home where she sells foods, soft drinks and other drinks. She works every day from 6 am to 8 pm and sometimes even later. Her husband helps her in the nights. She has run the store for three years, but with the loans she has received from the institution she has been able to expand it and stock it more every day. She will use this loan to stock her store with all kinds of foods. She has been with the communal bank for three loan cycles and she likes it because the loans help her to improve her business every day and to bring up her children. Her dream is to give her children the best.
