A loan of $925 helped to purchase colored thread and fabric.

Carmen's story

Carmen is 42 years old and a single mother to three children. They have lived in a rented house for a year. When she was 14 years old, she started embroidering clothing by hand, especially skirts that are typical of the region. She says that thanks to her good taste and the art she inherited at a young age, she was able to raise her children and as a single mother she will fight so that they become professionals. "All of my efforts are for them, since they are studying at the university", she says.

The months where she has the best sales are festival days celebrating animals where farmers use the traditional skirts and cloths that Carmen makes. As a good rural woman, she also farms corn, potatoes, and vegetables.

Now she wants to improve her income and boost sales to be able to educate her children. This is her first loan with Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support that she receives to continue forward. Carmen will invest the 2500 soles in the purchase of colored thread and fabrics at wholesale so that she can continue her embroidery without difficulty.
