A loan of $1,125 helped a member to expand their businesses.

Seeran's Group's story

Seeran baji, the wife of K. M., has lived in Chichawatni, Pakistan for the last 50 years. She owns a five room brick house and is the mother of eight children. Her first two sons are in 7th standard (grade). She recently completed her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan), using the funds to buy a vehicle. She is now applying for a new one on behalf of her husband, a driver by profession, who wants to repair his truck.

She is joined in her loan group by four members: Khursheed baji wants a loan to purchase car seat covers to resell; Nasreen baji, Bashiran baji and Hafizan baji each want a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw (local three-wheeled motor vehicle).

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members guarantee one another's loans, so if one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In this group: Seeran, Khursheed, Nasreen, Bashiran, Hafizan
