Benkadi 4 Group's story

The ten members of the Benkadi 4 group are married woman who, on average, are 30 years old and have two children. They all live in traditional families in Niantanaso, a village in the third administrative region of Mali (Sikasso). They are working with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to carry out their farming during the rainy season. They are on their seventh farm loan with the institution and all of their previous loans have been repaid.

Korotoumou, the second person seated on the right in the photo, grows, among other things, ground nuts, rice, and sweet peas. With her loan, she plans to buy farm inputs and to pay the cost of labor to maintain one hectare of land.

After the harvest, she sells her crops in the village to men and women customers.

She hopes to earn an average of 60,000 francs CFA per crop harvest. These earnings will allow her to help her husband in the everyday expenses.
