Samem, a rural villager from Kandal province's Ponhea Luer district, is 20 years old. To support the family, she is a nursing assistant in a village. She has been working this part-time job for one year. She can earn approximately KHR 25,000 per day to better support her family and she can manage to save about KHR 10,000 each day, after daily expenses.

Samem has been with VisionFund Cambodia for one cycle. She completely paid back the past loan which helped her provide better support to her family members with enough food.

This cycle, she is applying for an education loan in amount of 750 U.S. Dollars to cover the entire tuition fee in a local university specializing in midwife services. She hopes that this loan will enable her to obtain a higher education background and end up with a good job after graduation in order to support the family.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
