A loan of $375 helped to buy organic fertilizer.

Esperanza's story

60-year-old Esperanza is an exemplary woman. She lives together with her husband, Cecilio, and the couple have six children who are all adults and live independently. Esperanza is a hard-working woman. She has been farming since she was a young girl, growing coffee. She owns well-fed, good-quality coffee plantations and this is how she supports her family. Although her children are no longer dependent, she really enjoys caring for them and always concerns herself with their well-being. She says that at harvest time she shares with her husband the arduous task of gathering the coffee beans. "In spite of my age, I have a lot of strength for my work. I love the countryside and, without it, I don't know how I would be able to live" Right now it is harvest time and Esperanza hopes to make good income because, thanks to God, she was not affected by the insect infestations that reached the coffee plantations in the Peruvian jungle this year.

This is Esperanza's third loan from Kiva and she is grateful for the financial support that she is receiving as it allows her to continue achieving her goals. She pledges to be punctual in making her loan repayments. Esperanza will invest the 1,000 soles she has requested in buying organic fertilizer for feeding her plantations.
