A loan of $550 helped to buy organic manure.

Bernardina's story

Bernardina, 58, is an exemplary woman. She lives with her husband, Donato, who she married 16 years ago. They have 8 children but only one of them lives with them in their own house. Bernardina has a small tourist recreational site on the outskirts of a populated center where she sells various beverages, candy and other food items. She does very well in her business because it’s located in a strategic zone.

In addition, she shares her time with agriculture, her family’s main source of income. She says that she started planting bananas, coffee and all varieties of citrus fruit 40 years ago and also produces seedlings of them that she sells to merchants in a nearby city. In all this time of work she succeeded in acquiring five parcels of farmland. She relates that she acquired them four years ago and is very proud of that. Now, her goal is to improve the quality of her crops and business.

This is her third Kiva loan. She is grateful for the financial support she gets because it allows her to continue towards her goals. Also, she promises to be punctual with her installment payments. Bernardina will use the 1,500 soles to buy organic manure to continue planting seedlings.
