Meet with this team of primary school teachers from Waterloo, a town in western Sierra Leone near the capital city of Freetown. This team of teachers has come to SMT, Kiva’s oldest field partner in Sierra Leone, to apply for a loan of SLL 4,400,000. This loan will empower these teachers to tackle their most immediate and most pressing financial needs. At the end of each month, their school’s bursar will deduct the amount they owe and repay SMT/Kiva on their behalf.

Samuel is the featured leader of this team. He is a native of Yele village. At age 40, Samuel is a father and a husband. He has been in the teaching profession for 18 years now. Samuel has requested a loan of SLL 2,000,000 in order to buy house building materials like iron corrugated sheets, sand, cements, rods, etc. for the construction of a dwelling place.
