A loan of $3,800 helped a member to buy building materials to construct a house for his family.


Samuel's Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. This able and dedicated staff has come to SMT and its Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of 16,400,000 SLL to be shared among the entire team in order to meet their most immediate and pressing financial needs. At the end of each month the group can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for making salary deductions and loan payments on its behalf.


Samuel, 39, is the group’s leader. He has taught school for eight years now. A native of Kenema, he is married and has two children who are attending primary and secondary school. He will use his portion of the loan to buy building materials such as corrugated iron sheets, cement, etc. to construct a house for his family.
