Isabel's story

Isabel, who lives in the city of Managua, is the mother of 4 children who have now left home. She earns her living selling tortillas and running a grocery shop. She started out just selling tortillas and later began to sell coffee, tortillas and cheese before gradually built up her range of goods until she had a mini grocery shop. She has now been running the tortilla and grocery business for 7 years and occasionally also sells food as a means of generating additional income. She is applying the loan to buy rice, beans, sugar, oil, corn, firewood, fizzy drinks, washing powder, bleach, soap etc. - products which her customers ask for everyday and which they cannot do without. One of her plans is to transfer her grocery shop to bigger premises in her home, as a means of ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of her business.
