A loan of $1,125 helped to buy stock merchandise for her stationery shop.

Olga Maria's story

Olga María, 45, is a single mother of three children in her care; they attend university and secondary school. She’s noted for being hardworking and responsible with a drive towards personal improvement. In her free time she very much enjoys spending time with her family and she prepares a traditional dish for them like “güirilas con cuajadas” [soft corn cake with cheese or cream]. She strives daily to provide a better future for her children.

Thanks to her spirit and drive to get ahead her economic activity is a stationery shop located at home. She spends about 9 hours daily selling her products. The objective of the loan is to invest in working capital to stock her shop with products like notebooks, pencils, copy books, staples, folders, crepe paper, reams of letter and legal size paper, erasers, books, stories, file clips, etc. so that in the not too distant future she can earn higher income.

Olga María is grateful for the support Kiva lenders provide for people of scarce resources and for poor countries like Nicaragua so that ways of earning a living with dignity are possible.
