María Dolores's story

The members of the “Dulce Amistad” (Sweet Friendship) communal bank meet in Rocafuerte Canton every fifteen days. This place is known for the delicious sweets locals, who are known for being warm-hearted, kind and hardworking, make that are famous throughout the country.

María, 38, lives here. She’s married and has three children who are 19, 17 and 14 years of age. The oldest attends university and the other two attend secondary school. Her husband’s a driver and works for the city of Rocafuerte.

María is a very good mother and housewife who in order to help her husband with family expenses works in commerce. She sells products of the Avon brand via catalog (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumery and women’s accessories). She works every day two to three hours per day preferably in the morning. She sells on credit and collects weekly or biweekly according to customers’ wishes. She’s been in business more than three years and is doing very well.

She will use this loan to buy perfume, costume jewelry, cosmetics and creams. She’s been in the communal bank for five years and likes it because of the help provided by the institution. Her dream is to see her children finish their schooling and become good professionals.
