A loan of $2,575 helped a member to buy potatoes.

Perlas Blancas Group's story

The “Perlas Blancas” (White Pearls) communal bank will start its 8th cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Collpani Focal Center. It has 10 members led by a governing board presided over by Nieves. The members of the communal bank carry out a variety of activities. Among them are: sweater and vest knitting, blanket weaving, sale of mobile phone accessories and chargers, clothing embroidery, skirt making, macramé knitting and dog clothes making.

The loan they’ll take out will benefit small micro businesswomen like Nieves. She indicates that she’s been part of Pro Mujer for two years having joined thanks to an invitation from a girlfriend who is a member of the institution. She currently has a business selling “salchipapas” (fried sausages with fried potatoes), a business she started with small savings she had having noted that there was none in her zone.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital. She will buy potatoes in street markets in the city of El Alto and then sell the product in her sales stand. This way of working makes it possible for her to generate income to support her home as best as possible since she’s single and has a daughter. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answer that she likes the medical services and the training.

One of the lady’s daughters is with the group; she appears in front posing with her hand to her face.

In this group: Nieves, Yanet, Emiliana, Felipa, Hilda , Betsabe, Silberia, Teresa, Paulina, Olga
