Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $375 helped to purchase more bitter balls, peppers, onions, vita fish, meat and other items for her business.

Iyee's story

Iyee lives and works in St. Paul. St. Paul is home to the oldest market in Liberia and is known for its fish due to its location by the sea. St. Paul is a suburb located just outside Monrovia, past Freeport. It is one of the poorer areas of the country, and you will often find its residents living in sub-standard housing.

She is 44 years old. A widow with four children aged between 20 and 30, Iyee has been operating a cook shop where she sells rice and soup for the past 8 years. She started this business by selling palm oil around for her mother, and learned this way of selling from her friends. She is requesting a loan to purchase more bitter balls, peppers, onions, vita fish, meat and other items for her business. Her plan is to increase her business even more. She sincerely thanks you in advance for your support.
