Rosa's story

57-year-old Rosa is a hard-working woman who lives with Luis, her husband of 26 years. The couple have two children who they care for in their own home which they bought 28 years ago. Every day, Rosa walks long stretches to arrive at her farmland where she sows alfalfa, beans, corn, carrots and potatoes. She has 18 years experience in this line of work and, every harvest time, she sells her crops in a nearby city where wholesale buyers from a well-known market come and buy the food produced on the land that Rosa cares for. However, as she is a woman who is very dedicated to her farming work, Rosa also works as a day laborer on other people's crops. She does this in her free time as it allows her to keep an eye on her crops too and not neglect them. She also raises animals such as guinea pigs and donkeys. She uses the former to feed her family and sells their meat whenever she finds herself in financial difficulty. She uses the latter for carrying loads.

This is Rosa's third loan from Kiva and she feels happy to be receiving this financial support as it will enable her to continue in her business. Rosa will invest the 3,000 soles she has requested in buying organic fertilizers with which to nourish her crops.
