A loan of $250 helped to purchase an increased amount of maize for preparing kenkey.

Adjoa's story

Due to difficult circumstances Adjoa did not have access to any form of formal education, yet this has not stopped her from achieving her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Currently, Adjoa prepares and sells ‘kenkey’ (a traditional Ghanaian dish made from corn dough and is wrapped in banana leaves) in her village of Effutuakwa, near Cape Coast. She has been doing so for about 6 years. She is married to a farmer, and together they have 5 children. Adjoa uses all her income to feed and provide for her family.

Adjoa will use the loan to purchase an increased amount of maize, which will aid her in improving her overall ‘kenkey’ sales. Adjoa wants to use the future profits from her expanded business to ensure that all her children are able to receive an education.
