A loan of $700 helped a member to buy cassava seedling for replanting and to pay the ploughing fee for her cassava field.

Khen's Group's story

An industrious mother of three children, aged 51, Khen is villager residing in Kampong Cham province where cassava is the one of the most popular cash-crops in the area among the local farmers. For Khen and the rest of her family, two hectares of cassava farming and one hectare of rice cropping are the main source of her income for daily food consumption. She has been in this business since she was 21 years old. Currently, this business earns 22,000 KHR per day.

Khen has joined VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for the past two cycles and has successfully repaid back her loan already. This loan has empowered her to carry on the good living conditions of her family. Additionally, she can afford to provide three decent meals a day for her kids. With this new loan, she joins a group of two as the leader to apply for a new loan with VisionFund again. She and her co-borrower are seeking for 1,400,000 KHR each.

As the leader, Khen will spend her loan portion to buy cassava seedlings for replanting and to pay for the ploughing fees for her cassava field. She hopes that she can grow healthy seedlings so that she can gain high yield with a good price.
