Residing in the Ponhea Leur district of Kandal province, Chanly is 23 years old and he is single. He earns a living through working as an electrician in the local area. Having been in this job for three months, Chanly is able to earn about US$5 per day and he manages to save about US$3 each day after daily expenses.

Chanly has never been with Kiva's partner, VisionFund, before. Now, he is applying as a first-time borrower with VisionFund for a US$400 loan to cover the entire tuition fee for him to study electrical engineering at a local institute. He hopes this loan will enable him to keep studying until graduation in order to get a good job so as to support himself and improve the family's living conditions.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
