A loan of $575 helped to buy beers and fizzy drinks.

Eucaris's story

Eucaris is 43 years old and makes a living selling both alcoholic and soft drinks. A little under five years ago, Eucaris needed to increase her income and her sister recommended that she start this business to guide her with her experience. So, in 2008, Eucaris started the business, selling fizzy drinks, beer and liquor. The shop is open 24 hours every day, particularly toward the end of the week and when there are festivals, times when sales increase. Eucaris buys from a local distributor and her aim is to have a fridge in order to improve her living conditions. Eucaris is applying for a Kiva loan - her first with the "Fundación Mario Santo Domingo" - which she will use to buy larger quantities of beers and fizzy drinks. She will then be able to stock up for the coming weekends when there will be many festivals. The semester holidays are also approaching and at this time consumption of these products goes up and so does Eucaris' income.
