A loan of $400 helped to buy more cartons of smoked herrings for re-sale.

Ama's story

Ama is forty-two years old and married with five children. All her children are in school. Ama hawks herrings in the village for the folks to get fish to prepare their meals, either for lunch or dinner. She says smoked herring is entering the lean season therefore she wants to use the loan to buy more herrings to avoid price hikes.

Ama hopes to save some money to rent one of the local market stalls to sell her fish out of as hawking is a very tiring job for her. She also hopes to register to become a member of the health insurance scheme where she and her family can enjoy free medical care. Ama is member of the group called Amen. Members agree to guarantee for each other to repay the loan.
