Nancy Santos's story

The María Monserrate communal bank meets every two weeks in the Montecristi canton. It is known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its artisanal crafts that are known nationally and internationally. It is where the famous paja toquilla hats are made..

This is where Nancy lives. She is 53 years old, married and from this relationship has 2 children, aged 28 and 22, The youngest still lives with her. Her husband is a bricklayer.

Nancy is a fighter. When she saw her husband wasn't earning much and that sometimes he had no work, a year and a half ago, with the help pf her first loan. she opened a business in her house selling drinks. She sells water, beer, energy drinks, and more, as well as snacks. She works every day, although the days she sells the most are the weekends. Her son and her husband help her when they have time.

This loan is to buy water, soda, beer and snacks. She has been in the communal bank for a year and a half and she likes it because she started her bank with her first loan and it allows her to get her household ahead.

Her dream is to improve her business day to day.
