A loan of $1,325 helped buy clothing and footwear.

Gladys's story

61-year old Gladys lives with her husband and four children aged between 35 and 41 in the town of Cartagena, located on the Caribbean. It's one of the most beautiful tourist sites in Colombia, and also very well known because one of the most important naval bases in the country is located there. Cartagena is well known too for its historic and artistic heritage which spans many eras: Carthage, Roman, and Byzantine. It has modern and contemporary military buildings as well those dating from neoclassic times.

It is in this wonderful place that Gladys runs her modest business. She has an excellent client base who buy from her on credit and make their repayments punctually. She has built up this client base gradually, carefully working out their prospects and ability to make the repayments.

Most popular among the products she sells is women's clothing, footwear, and accessories which she promotes through specialist catalogs and from whom she buys on occasion when they have special offers. Gladys always knows what is selling well so she can offer the best products at the lowest prices. Her goal in the future is to own a bigger store with a wide range of merchandise to attract her customers while she serves them and generates income.

Now Gladys is seeking a loan from Kiva to buy up to date clothing and footwear as her customers like to see change, and she likes to give them what they are asking for. Her business will become financially sustainable generating more income for the benefit of her and her family.
