This group consists of 20 women who live in the same village and get along very well with one another.

The group's representative, Khady, is 24 years old. She is married and the mother of two children. She is involved in fattening cattle in her village and she also sells "thiakry" (a type of couscous prepared with milk). In the photo, she is standing on the right-hand side, wearing a dress made of wax-print fabric, and she is raising her left hand.

She plans to use her loan to buy two oxen to be fattened and, with the rest of the money, the supplies necessary to prepare thiakry (millet, sugar etc.).

She would like to reinvest her profits in her business in order to boost her activities and maximize her earnings. She would also like to help her husband cover the daily expenses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
