Miatta's story

Miatta is a 42-year-old business woman from Liberia. She is married and has four children, between 17 and 4. Her four are currently attending school and live at home. She did not go to school and started her business to make a living. She describes herself as a hardworking woman.

She lives and works in St. Paul. St. Paul is home to the oldest market in Liberia and is known for its fish due to its location by the sea. St. Paul is a suburb located just outside Monrovia, past the Freeport. It is one of the poorer areas and you will often find its residents living in substandard housing.

Miatta has a table business where she has sold charcoal for the past ten years. She started her business by selling for her mother. She likes her business because she makes a profit. She works ten hours at her business. Her greatest challenge in business is insufficient income.

She intends to use the loan to buy more charcoal for her business.She hopes to one day own a house.
